Mario Beauregard
Beauregard is currently associate researcher at the Departments of Psychology and Radiology, and the Neuroscience Research Center, Université de Montréal. His work about the effects of consciousness and volition on the emotional brain and the neurobiology of the mystical experience has received international media coverage: newspapers and magazines in Europe and the United States, including The Daily Telegraph,The New Scientist, the Baltimore Sun,The Globeand Mail, and The Economist have featured aspects of his research. Radio and television, including The Daily Planet science news show on Canada’s Discovery Channel, have also depicted his work and the National Film Board of Canada is currently filming a documentary about the research conducted in his lab. Dr. Beauregard was selected by the World Media Net (an association of twenty major daily newspapers in Europe and Asia) to be one of the One Hundred Pioneers of the 21st Century. He lives in Montreal, Canada.
Spirituality
The Spiritual Brain
A Neuroscientist's Case for the Existence of the Soul
Talking Points
The authors can speak on this cutting edge science which is based on results from ground-breaking Templeton Foundation-funded research using powerful brain imaging technologies to show what is really happening in the brain during a mystical experience. The authors theories are based on legitimate scientific evidence, that supports the intuition of most Americans.
Description
The Spiritual Brain powerfully argues for what many in science are loathe to consider—that it is God that creates religious experiences, not the brain.
Most neuroscientists are committed to the view that mystical experiences are simply the result of random neurons firing, or as one scientist puts it, they are merely “delusions created by the brain.” But Mario Beauregard uses the most sophisticated technology to peer inside the brains of Carmelite nuns as they recall their most profound spiritual experience which they call unio mystico, the experience of oneness with God.

Brain Wars
The Scientific Battle Over the Existence of the Mind and the Proof That Will Change the Way We Live Our Lives
Talking Points
An acclaimed neuroscientist reveals new evidence that will transform the current understanding of the relationship between the brain, the mind and consciousness.
Description
Where does our sense of self originate? What happens to “us” after our body perishes? Do our mind and consciousness completely dissolve into nothingness? Can the mind exist without the body?
These profound questions have engendered considerable debate throughout history, and have led successive cultures to develop beliefs about human nature, immortality, and the afterlife. Over the last several centuries, scientists working under the presumption that matter is all that exists have concluded that consciousness can be seen as simply a collection of nerve cells in the brain. That is, there is no separation between consciousness or the mind - who we are - and the function of brain.
Dr. Beauregard disagrees. He asserts there are multiple lines of hard evidence that reveal that the mind and consciousness are transmitted and filtered through the brain, but are not generated by the brain. This controversial theory turns accepted science on its head by showing how mental events exist outside of the brain and further these events can significantly influence the functioning of our brains and our bodies. In other words, humans are more than complex biological machines. The fact that our minds function apart from our brains invites a whole new understanding of the universe.
Filled with the latest scientific research and remarkable stories of the mind’s incredible abilities, Brain Wars is a page turning, paradigm shifting work. The evidence can no longer be ignored and Dr. Beauregard introduces a major shift in our understanding of the age-old mind/body debate. Our consciousness transcends the material world and this new understanding has profound social, and moral implications for the future.
